Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (B.A. LL.B) is a five-year integrated undergraduate degree programme that combines the study of humanities with professional legal education. It is designed for students who have completed higher secondary education and wish to enter the legal profession directly without first completing a separate bachelor’s degree. The course is generally divided into ten semesters and is offered by universities and law colleges approved by the Bar Council of India.
The programme includes arts subjects such as political science, sociology, economics, history, and English, along with core law subjects including constitutional law, contract law, criminal law, family law, administrative law, and jurisprudence. This interdisciplinary structure helps students understand both social systems and legal principles, which is important for interpreting laws and applying them in real situations. Practical training through moot courts, internships, legal aid camps, and case studies is also an essential part of the curriculum
After completing B.A. LL.B, graduates can enroll with a State Bar Council and appear for the All India Bar Examination to become practicing advocates in India. The degree also opens opportunities in judicial services, legal consultancy, corporate legal departments, civil services, and higher studies such as LL.M. Because it combines academic and professional training, B.A. LL.B is considered one of the most popular law degrees for students interested in legal careers
